Ownership over time · Investigation 02
Eight Sleep and Dock Pro: repairs, noise and upkeep
Repairs, replacements, noise and subscriptions: we reconstructed 16 reported ownership episodes and checked the current vendor documents.
Still recommended. Still repaired.
Two Dock Pro accounts describe roughly two years of ownership and still recommend their systems after replacement or repairs. A recommendation answers whether the owner values the product. It does not establish uninterrupted service.
This is a deliberately selected pilot: 16 product episodes from 13 public account identities, across six threads on Reddit and TrainerRoad. They are not 16 independent owners. We verified the source text, not the people, purchases or reported hardware faults. There is no population denominator and no brand ranking.
Continued use and repair-free use are different outcomes: two-year Dock Pro owners still recommended their systems after replacement or repairs.
No leaks does not mean no hardware problem: one Pod Cover 2 owner paid to upgrade after sleep-detection failure.
Source: Is anyone 2+ years in WITHOUT a leak?
One Dock Pro account stopped using the unit because of pump noise, despite describing it as working; cooling also seemed weaker. Noise and cooling performance need separate answers.
A replacement resets the hardware clock. One account described a roughly one-year initial system (believed to be Pod 3) and a Pod 4 that developed a cooling problem two years after replacement.
Source: 3-Year Review of the Eight Sleep
Hybrid replacement systems need their own label. One account kept a Pod 2 hub while replacing its leaking cover with a Pod 3; the replacement cover later leaked too.

The owner’s clock and the cover’s clock
One account bought a Pod 2 in April 2022 and reported a leak in May 2023. A Pod 3 replacement cover stayed on the original Pod 2 hub and later leaked after a reported 19 months. Calling this a single 32-month cover lifespan would hide the replacement. These are reported ages, not inspected service records.
- Pod 213 months → leak → cover replaced
- Pod 3 + Pod 2 hub19 months → replacement cover leaked

What today’s documents establish
Checked 12 October 2026. Current published terms do not establish the contract attached to an older purchase. Vendor warranties and statutory consumer rights are separate.
Eight Sleep · Membership and warranty coverage
Pod 3–6 listed in present warranty
The present warranty lists two years from delivery and requires active membership for standard as well as extended coverage. Five-year coverage requires a qualifying Enhanced or Elite plan.
Current published vendor terms; older orders may have different contracts. Statutory consumer rights are separate.
Eight Sleep · Coverage after a replacement
Pod listed in present warranty
A warranty replacement keeps the remaining original coverage or 90 days, whichever is longer. The warranty is not transferable; unauthorized third-party or secondhand purchases are excluded.
Current published vendor terms; older orders may have different contracts. Statutory consumer rights are separate.
Eight Sleep · Repair and warranty exclusions
Pod listed in present warranty
Eight chooses repair or replacement. Unauthorized modifications and repairs, wear, misuse and operation contrary to instructions are excluded from the present limited warranty.
Current published vendor terms; older orders may have different contracts. Statutory consumer rights are separate.
Eight Sleep · What remains after cancellation
Current Pod membership FAQ
Purchases carry a 12-month Autopilot commitment. After deactivation, the FAQ says a manual temperature dial remains, but schedules, automatic adjustment, alarms and sleep reports are unavailable.
Source: Autopilot cancellation
This is a documented feature boundary, not an offline-function test.
Eight Sleep · Wi-Fi and cloud dependence
Terms updated 16 September 2026
Eight’s terms say the Pod needs Wi-Fi and the app to operate and warn that cloud-dependent services can be interrupted. Cancellation and an internet outage are distinct conditions.
Source: Eight Sleep terms of service
Terms describe dependence, not measured outage duration or an independently tested fallback.
Eight Sleep · Maintenance differs by generation
Pod 3 or earlier / Pod 4–5 / Pod 6
The current maintenance guide separates older Pods from Pod 4/5 inserts and Pod 6 maintenance packs. Active members receive insert refreshes or packs every 6–8 months. A generic maintenance instruction should not be applied across generations.
Vendor instructions can change. The maintenance and refill guides differ on water advice for older Pods; verify the exact model’s current instructions rather than reproduce a universal recipe.
Sleepme · Warranty and optional protection
Chilipad 1.0 Dock Pro
The present limited warranty lists one year for Dock Pro control units and one year for thermal-regulating pads. The separate protection-plan page advertises two-year Dock Pro coverage and three years for Chilipad 2.0.

Current published vendor terms; older orders may have different contracts. Statutory consumer rights are separate.
Sleepme · Cleaning, water and flushing
Dock Pro
Sleepme instructs monthly cleaner and water maintenance, plus a semiannual flush and pad washing. The guide also asks owners to inspect for condensation; the manual connects compliance with maintenance instructions to warranty validity.
Source: Dock Pro maintenance schedule · Source: Dock Pro manual
These are required upkeep steps, not our measured time burden or proof of longer lifespan.
Sleepme · Buttons and airplane mode
Dock Pro
The Dock Pro manual documents physical temperature buttons and airplane mode. App features include schedules and firmware updates; the manual says Wi-Fi updates continue even if the app is deleted.
This does not verify which schedules survive a cloud outage. Chilipad 2.0 should not inherit Dock Pro findings without checking its documentation.
Sleepme · Published pump-repair instructions
Dock Pro
Sleepme publishes a main-water-pump replacement guide naming a repair kit, tools and genuine-parts precautions. A documented repair route is more specific than a promise to replace the whole system.

No repair was attempted. Parts stock, price, Swedish supply and warranty authorization were not verified.
Eight Sleep / Sleepme · Direct shipping to Sweden
Current direct-sales pages
Eight Sleep lists European Union shipping with specified country exclusions that do not include Sweden. Sleepme’s current direct-shipping page says US and territories only, with no international shipping.

Not a checkout test, stock confirmation, import-cost estimate or determination of Swedish statutory rights. Third-party distribution may differ.
Five questions before buying
- Which generation, cover and hub am I actually buying?
- What cleaning and refill work does this exact model require?
- What remains if I cancel the subscription, and what separately requires internet?
- Can this component be repaired locally, and who handles a replacement?
- When does replacement coverage end, and can a secondhand purchase use it?
For Sweden, direct supply is not equivalent across these brands: Eight Sleep lists EU shipping with exclusions that do not include Sweden; Sleepme currently says direct shipping is limited to the US and territories. A reseller route needs its own check of service, shipping and returns.

Sources and limitations
We searched for positive long ownership, repairs, failures and stopped use, then read accessible primary threads including replies. Six threads supplied this pilot. German and Swedish searches did not add usable primary ownership accounts. Blocked and reserved leads remain outside the sample. Two additional reports lacked a product generation and were excluded from the explorer. This is not a saturated search.
Some dates and durations are rounded, inferred by the source author or missing. Hybrid hardware stays labelled. No undisclosed commercial interest can be ruled out. These accounts cannot estimate a failure probability, establish current-generation durability or measure a sleep or health benefit. We have not tested the products. English and Swedish use the same evidence.
